At our concert on Monday 31st March, the choir – with an orchestra and four very talented soloists – performed extracts from Handel’s ‘Messiah’ (pts 2 and 3).
The members of the orchestra were – on Strings, the Haver Quartet with Adrian Bornet on Double Bass, Charlotte Perkins on Violin, Sagnick Mukherjee on Viola, Brianna Berman on Violin and Peter Phelan on Cello. The Continuo Organ was played by our very own Morley Whitehead, on Trumpet 1 was Andrew Connell Smith, on Trumpet 2, Iain Archibald and on Timpani, Alasdair Rankin.
Our wonderful soloists were: Soprano – Jessica Leary; Mezzo-soprano – Lea Shaw; Tenor – Iain Milne and Bass – Jerome Knos
As ever, our accompanist was Morley Whitehead and we were led by Musical Director Timothy Coleman.
We are also grateful to all of the Choir committee, helpers and family members, friends for their support, both leading up to the concert, and on the evening itself. And of course we would like to thank Merchiston Castle School for their continued support. Our use of the Memorial Hall, access to the School’s Music Library and the loan of musical instruments are very much appreciated.
We had lots of positive feedback on our concert: comments like “really enjoyed it”, “very uplifting”, “great concert”, “the best concert yet”, “brilliant”. Everyone, choir members and audience alike, seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. All of the Choir’s hard work, practising at home in addition to coming to rehearsals, paid off. The soloists said it was a pleasure singing with us.
